Let us strive to enter by the narrow gate into the kingdom through trials and troubles we go by the gate into the kingdom We are like the trees of winter Without rain we can´t bear fruit We are like the trees of winter This present age is like a storm Written by Lasse Lindgren, based on the teaching of Amma Theodora

We shall keep on sailing through the dark night We set our sails by the Sun of Justice We are like those who sail on a calm sea We set our sails by the Sun of Justice You will see one day the Sun of Justice will free us all from darkness one day the Sun of Justice will rise and prevail Written by Lasse Lindgren, based on the teaching of Amma Syncletica

about

The APOPHTHEGMATA series by Aition focuses on the ancient texts of the Apophthegmata Patrum, a collection of sayings and narratives about the Desert Fathers and Mothers, hermit ascetics who settled to live solitary life in the harsh conditions of the Egyptian desert from the 3rd century AD onwards.

Part II of the APOPHTHEGMATA series, Syncletica, is focusing on the Desert Mothers, the three women ascetics mentioned in the Apophthegmata Patrum: Amma Syncletica, Amma Sarah and Amma Theodora. In addition, this release brings into the light some females mentioned in the Apophthegmata texts: Paesia, an orphan who became a hospice to the Desert Fathers, and later became a prostitute; Irene, Abba Spyridon´s daughter; a woman spotted by Abba Poemen in Egypt who was weeping by a tomb; and a monk who after his death was discovered that he was actually a woman.

The album features the members of medieval ensemble Sufira: Aino Peltomaa, Eira Karlson and Susanna Tollet, with special guest Anna-Maaria Oramo.
